#Juneathon: Day 28 – A Break From the Norm

Today I went for a bike ride. My new bike had been sat in the garage for the best part of 2 weeks without being used, all in the name of #Juneathon. However, as I have the Potteries Marathon in a weeks time, I thought it appropriate I give the running a miss and test the new pedals out. I cycled for 10 miles and realise I have a lot to get used to. The wheels are bigger than on my off road bike, the tyres a LOT thinner and most crucially, there is no suspension! I’m going to regret this in the morning…

I also met with a couple of running friends and drove around the Potteries Marathon Course. ‘Shitting it’ are not the words… A marathon should never be taken lightly, but this one is massively hilly, up and over everywhere, twisting and turning here there and everywhere… it’s been a massive achievement to bring it back after a decade but this route is a horror… boy, are the entrants going to to know about it! A heatwave is due to hit mid week so also expect it to be a record breaker in terms of temperature. It’s going to be tough.

I wanted to run all of Juneathon, but today common sense prevailed. The 10 miles on the bike (Movescount) will come in handy when I enter ironman next year (eep!) but for now, the focus in on next weekend and making it round this horror of a course. Why not come and join us?
