#Juneathon: Day 11 – Cow Lane Reccy

I was involved in a debate the other night… whether Cow Lane, a popular right-of-way around these parts, is currently accessible. Some of the land between the running club and the canal is being redeveloped and the developer has caged off a big chunk of public footpath for safety reasons. This has various impacts – first of all our annual multi-terrain race which uses this right-of-way will have to be re-routed.  Secondly, it means that for some training routes we have to take the long way round (no real hardship) and thirdly, and most importantly, it’s freaking us out! We’re creatures of habit, and whilst we’re not quite as bad as the ramblers association, we don’t like to have our routine interrupted.

Me, Today...

Me, Today…

Today I needed to #Juneathon early so decided to pay a visit to the locality and find out for myself. I can confirm, happily, that it is still open. There is much more fence, wire, chain, locks and signage, but the gate encased within the gate is open. Hurrah! Now for the rest of my 4 or so miles (Movescount). They were hot and hellish… It was about 25 degrees and felt a great deal hotter. I forced myself to slow down and guzzled greedily from my aqua-pack. The Potteries Marathon is on the 5th July and may be as hot as today. 26.2 hilly as hell miles in this type of heat will be the biggest running challenge I will have ever faced. It’s the first Potteries Marathon for a decade that starts and finishes on my doorstep. It has to be done, let’s pray I finish.
