There she blows, 50 #Juneathon miles and an average of 5.3 miles a day.
Today I took a break from the canal, although the watery theme continued as I ran down Longton Brook to Trentham Gardens and took in a tour of the lake (Movescount). If you visit Trentham Gardens at the weekend, it’s rammed… it’s a local honeypot and they like to pack them in. This afternoon at around 5pm, however, it was lovely and quiet. People were scattered about here and there, but once I zapped my way into the gardens proper, the quietness and still of the lake tempered the heat of the day and I found myself smiling as I ran.
The gardens are a lovely place to be. There were butterflies of all varieties fluttering around the planted beds (designed by Capability Brown don’t you know), fish in the River Trent basked in the sunshine, swans drifted about on the water, squirrels scurried about the giant redwoods and monkeys eyed me up suspiciously from the safety of the forest. Yes, real monkeys… They’re inside a huge cage, but are essentially wild, and were also making them most of early evening sunshine.
I know this might sound like I work for the estate… I don’t, and it’s easy to forget sometimes that we have these things on our doorsteps. There are people locally who never leave suburbia which is such a waste. The world is outside and I’m making the most of it!
