Janathon 2013: Day 30 – 150 Miles

Where has the day gone? There I was quietly filling my face with pie and wine, when it became ten o’clock and I realise I haven’t updated my Janathon blog… It’s bed time, but now is not the time to throw in the towel and buckle… Tomorrow, the final day of Janathon, I will have my work running club members in tow, and we will see out the month around the streets of Stafford. I also need to help my friend ‘Happy Feet’ reach her 150 mile target, as I did today…

Today my motivation was just that… to break through this mystical barrier… the route around the village is a fairly easy going 3.5 miles or so. It’s uphill for the first 1,000m, then downhill for the next 1,000… then more or less flat. Today I pegged it as fast as my tired, fat little legs would allow… as I finished, gasping for air and feeling exhilarated, I pawed ineffectually at my iPhone… By the time I had managed to unlock the thing, I was just 1 minute or so faster than 4 weeks previously (Runkeeper). I’m not sure what I expected, but I was disappointed all the same…

Perhaps I ask too much of myself. Janathon has been a curious journey, and a challenging one at that. Tomorrow I need 4.5 miles to make 155 miles in total, or 250 KM… My team will help me out there… I also have to drive to the Moorlands and present a piece of work I published five months ago… I am really not sure if my grey cells are up to the job! I have done a considerable amount of sleeping since then… However, the pace of local government never has been all that fast, which is kind of my theme for the evening…

At the danger of wishing my life away, bring on tomorrow…
